But that is neither here nor there. We can get into the finer points of my weirdness at a later date (there is plenty to discuss). Today I am here to discuss goals. More specifically the goals that I have set for the year and any goals that you have set.
Last year I set very few goals and as such I felt like I had accomplished very little by the end of it. Ok, so that isn't all true. I feel like I accomplished a lot in my work life, that is a HUGE part of my life, but it seemed that the other facets of my life were lacking. The author, reader, and blogger part of my life.
To say that last year was a bad year would be an understatement. I had absolutely no motivation and I can honestly say that I only read 6 books in the second half of last year. As an avid reader, that is just plain sad. I lost my mojo somewhere along my journey. I struggled as an author and I think that translated to my reading.
But I digress. This year is going to be different. I have already started off reading more... YAY, and have plans on doing more in all aspects of my life.
When I set my goals this year I decided to break them down into sections. I have author goals, reading goals, and blogging goals.
Let's start with my author goals.... when I first started brainstorming I quickly realized that this was an area that I wanted to put most of my focus. As I did not put really any focus on it last year, other than finishing my second book. (Did that, so go me). But I want this year to be different. I want this to be the year that I actually feel like an author. That may sound weird to some of you, but despite having published 2 books, I still don't feel like an author. And I think most of that has to do with the way that I have approached it. Last year, all I did was accomplish writing and publishing my book. That's it. Now don't get me wrong, that is huge. There is a lot of work that goes into publishing a book, but there is a lot more than what I did.
You don't just publish a book and expect it to fall magically into the hands of readers... ok well some people do, but you shouldn't because it doesn't happen that way. I knew that, yet I still did nothing to spread the word besides a few tweets and Facebook posts here and there. I failed as a marketer.
So goal #1: To invest more in myself as an author. (i.e., advertising, swag, blog tours and so on)
#2 Be more active on social media, interact more with reading community
#3 Be more active on my website. More specifically, to post something on my website at least twice a month.
#4 Finish writing my 3rd book, Destined by April. (This would be huge)
#5 Start new book (haven't decided which idea to go with)
Overall not a bad list of goals. They will at least get me started.
Now my reading and blogging goals are a lot more simple. As far as reading goes, I would like to reach my Goodreads goal of 50 books. And to write a review for every book I read within 24 hours.
And for blogging I simply want to do more. I would like to bring back my food blog and actively post my recipes to the site. It has been a year since I have posted anything to it. :(
And that sums it up. I think I have a good list to get me started. I will hopefully keep you updated, (we'll see how well I do), on my progress. Who knows you may be annoyed with me by the end of the year! Ha.
SO, did you set any goals for 2016? What do you think of my goals?
